Important Information
Mountain Gorilla Encounters: How It Works
Each day, only a limited number of visitors are allowed to trek to see the gorillas, ensuring a respectful and intimate experience. Our groups will consist of just 6 guests, accompanied by local guides, trackers, and protectors, to help ensure an up-close but safe interaction. You'll spend one hour with a gorilla family—a fleeting but unforgettable experience.
Early each morning Scouts head out to track the gorillas’ overnight movements and report back, so when we set off on our trek, we’ll know exactly where we are headed. Depending on their location, treks can last up to a few hours, with terrain varying from flat paths to steeper climbs through dense rainforest. It’s an adventure in itself, but the reward of meeting these majestic creatures face-to-face is truly worth every step.
Other safari’s
All other safaris follow a more traditional approach, utilizing classic safari vehicles like Land Rovers, boats, or even trekking on foot to reach our locations.
Payment Schedule
Gorilla trekking permits are in high demand, and securing your spot requires prompt action. The park's ticketing system links each permit directly to your passport number, meaning reservations cannot be held or reserved. To guarantee your place and secure the best trekking experience, tickets must be purchased immediately upon your agreement to join the workshop. A down payment is required to confirm your booking, and the exact amount can be found on our homepage.
Fitness & Health Considerations
Gorilla trekking is a physically demanding but rewarding adventure, suitable for anyone in good health. We recommend preparing for a challenging hike, as the trek takes place in a rainforest environment—likely different from what you're used to. While there's no need to worry, you’ll enjoy the experience more if you’re well-prepared.
To get ready, consider taking hikes in your local area, or even giving your dog that extra walk—they’ll love it! Even the most seasoned adventurers can benefit from a little assistance. The park provides complimentary walking sticks, and for a reasonable fee, you can hire a local porter to carry your gear. Hiring a porter not only makes your trek easier but also directly supports the surrounding communities, making your adventure even more meaningful.
Group Size & Comfort
With a group size limited to just 6, the workshop ensures personalized attention and an intimate atmosphere. The safari vehicles will allow for comfort and space. During the drives we will benefit from the expertise of our local guides, who are highly experienced in working with photographers to find the best shots.
