What to bring

Suggested Packing List

While you likely have your go-to packing essentials, I recommend bringing a few extra items to enhance your experience on this workshop.

Medical

* Vaccination certificate or card or documentation proving you are vaccinated for yellow fever

Computer

* Computer to cull through the day’s images. We will have a regular reviewing session in the evening to see everyone’s best images.

* This is not a Post processing workshop, however I’m sure we’ll work on some images together

Clothing

* Hiking gear (Boots, light weight pants for hiking in the jungle, Ankle gators are a nice to have, Long sleeve thin shirt, rain jacket)

* Light jacket for early morning safari’s

Gear provided by SnapAdventures

* Bug spray

* Suntan lotion

Camera Gear

This workshop stands out because it combines trekking, safaris, and landscapes, requiring thoughtful selection of your photography gear.

I typically bring the following:

* Camera body (2 would be best, one for a backup or a different lens setup)

* Lenses to cover wide angle for the landscape to telephoto for the safaris ( a range of 15-500mm)

* Landscape “accessories” like: Tripod, Filters, Shutter release cables

* Camera rain cover we will be in the rainforest and you have a chance to experience the namesake

I’ve used anywhere from a Ziplock to a dry-bag. These both help protect the equipment from the elements like rain, mist, branches, and dirt (if you drop your camera)

* Lens cleaner / wipes (we are in the rainforest)

* Mobile phone camera: Taking quick snapshots, memory shots, I’ve been here shots and those most important selfies.

Gorilla Trekking Specifics

We’ll be incredibly close to the Gorillas—often within 15 feet! With this in mind, it's best to carry a minimal, carefully chosen selection of gear.

Gorilla setup:

* Camera body x2

* Lens (1): 24-70 f2.8

* Lens (2): 70-200 f2.8

The Gorillas spend their relaxing time in well shaded areas and a fast lens offer you the best chance to keeping your iso low.

* Porters

The park offers the opportunity to hire a reasonably priced local porter to carry your equipment for the treks.

* I do NOT carry on the trek:

* Tripod / Monopod, the animals move often and this equipment will slow you down.

* Flash of any kind

The rest of the workshop setup:

* Lens (3) 15-35 - Landscape lens

* Lens (4) >300 Safari lens - I find that a 500mm is a wonderful focal length

* Tripod / Monopod and their accessories - for the landscapes we will encounter throughout the workshop
